Managing cardiovascular diseases is a multi-tier process. There are a lot of details that need to be taken into consideration while handling this condition.

One may say it’s complicated, but in reality, it’s a collection of small things and small habits that need to be done right, which ultimately results in improving the health of the patient. It’s not a cure, but a lifestyle that needs to be adopted for one’s own welfare.

There are several things that need to be kept on check for combating cardiovascular disease. One needs to keep track of blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Blood pressure control includes reducing salt and alcohol intake. One has to follow DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension), which is a healthy diet rich in vegetables, fruit, low fat dairy foods, nuts and wholegrains and low in sodium. For non vegetarians the diet also includes fish, chicken and lean meat. Research has shown that people consuming this type of diet have reduced their blood pressure.

Cholesterol control includes following a strict diet as well as physical activities. Food containing a lot of saturated fat should be cut down. A person has to intake fibre-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, legumes, rice bran, oat etc. Studies have also shown that eating 30g of nuts each day reduces LDL cholesterol and reduces risk of heart diseases.

It’s true that managing cholesterol and blood pleasure is the key aspect of tackling cardiovascular diseases. But it doesn’t stop there. A person has to restrain himself/herself from smoking. He/she should be disciplined about their workout and physical activities. One has to take the prescribed medicines at the right time. There are also chances of getting depressed in this battle. So a person has to find ways to cut out negativity. They have to be careful not to overthink. This battle is about doing small things right, and that’s all that needs to be done.
